VOLUME 4. ISSUE 6.
Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector (Vol. 4, Issue 6) -- the only publication dedicated exclusively to Data and Analytics companies, who share our passion for serving the Public Sector. As you may have noticed over the last couple of issues, the overall volume and quality of government contracting opportunities were below average; however, we think it is safe to say that this trend seems to be reversed. Similarly, we curated a large number of news stories and relevant announcements and it seems as though the "holiday lull" in this area has also concluded. From our perspective on this market, the hottest industry areas and overall trends appear to be Location Intelligence & Analytics, Satellite Data Services, and Identity Verification & Management. If you operate in one of these areas, the time is right to turbo-charge your Government Go-to-Market strategy and get busy!

In other data news, on January 14th, Government Computer News published an interesting article entitled, ID verification, analytics can help agencies fight fraud. In this article, Jon Cross describes how fraudsters have been running schemes on government programs essentially since those programs were first created. In a sense, if there is money to be had, criminals will try to get their hands on it -- many of them going to great lengths to do so.

  • “As we head into 2022, governments must implement modern technologies that fight fraud. Agencies are just coming back to full strength and capacity after adjusting to the demands of the pandemic, and expectations have never been higher. Combining an automated verification system and data analytics for prevention and detection help create a powerful tool for today’s government IT professionals who are experiencing a sea-change in volume and manner in which fraud is being perpetrated … armed with hard data to illustrate potential risks to impacted benefits programs, IT-savvy government leaders can provide documentation to request additional resources, funding, and even policy changes.”
