VOLUME 3. ISSUE 27.
Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Fed Data Prospector (Vol. 3, Issue 27). For those members of our community who are relatively new, we like to occasionally restate our objectives for this modest publication – first and foremost, by highlighting the Federal Government’s Contracting Opportunities that are most germane to Data and Analytics companies, we are actively demonstrating that the Public Sector is the largest and most advanced user of our industries’ collective solutions (as well as, perhaps, demonstrating the power of Carpe Datum’s machine learning curation engine that screens and filters all of these opps). Additionally, this marketplace runs on partnering and collaboration; therefore, the more you know about not only the end-users but also the other companies within your space, the more successful you will become. Simply stated, our focus is to hit these two points consistently hard … week-in and week-out!

In other data news, on June 12th, Government Computer News published an interesting article entitled, Postal Service turns to computer vision AI, edge computing to improve delivery.  In this article, Stephanie Kanowitz describes how USPS has deployed advanced computer systems at 195 mail processing centers nationwide to apply seven computer vision models, cutting the time it takes to track a missing package from several days to less than two hours.

  • “USPS, long-beleaguered for funding and operations, has several IT initiatives underway to combat those concerns. For instance, it’s looking into using autonomous vehicles for mail delivery and monetizing its geolocation data. A February Information Technology and Innovation Foundation report touted the use of robotics for last-mile postal delivery … “Not only is there extraordinary innovation occurring at the U.S. Postal Service, the work that’s occurring by building an enterprise wide AI program for the U.S. Postal Service can actually be a motivator for the U.S. federal government and, frankly, for commercial businesses and enterprises around the globe,” added Anthony Robbins, vice president of the North American Public Sector business at NVIDIA.
