Welcome to Carpe Datum’s Federal Data Prospector (Vol. 3, Issue 11) newsletter. With another week of very compelling data and data analytics-related opportunities, we are thrilled that our machine learning engine seems to be hitting on all cylinders and doing it’s job effectively! Please share any input that you may have about the federal opportunities we have spotlighted recently – your feedback will help tune our engine.
As always, please share our newsletter with friends, colleagues, and loved ones -- we're small, scrappy, and reliant on word-of-mouth marketing to spread the love and joy of Carpe Datum - Click here to sign-up.

Request for Information (RFI) --Terrorism Risk Insurance Program (TRIP) Terrorism Risk Modeling at Department of Treasury’s Federal Insurance Office (FIO) – The Contractor shall develop a Terrorism Risk Insurance Model to be provided to FIO that incorporates commercially available geocoded property and employment data covering the United States (as defined for purposes of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act). The model shall be capable of generating loss estimates (as described further below) derived from the geocoded property and employment data used within the model based upon identified attack modes taking place at specified locations as identified through queries made by FIO. For each location, the model shall provide data output estimating the loss that would result from the attack mode taking place at a specified location, both at that specified location and emanating from the specified location given the nature of the attack.
In other data news, on February 16th, Government Computer News (GCN) published an interesting article entitled, Understanding the intelligent edge. In this article, the authors, Ryan Luckay and Gretchen Stewart, describes how edge computing sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence, the internet of things and big data and provides the flexibility of a hybrid model that can take advantage of both data center infrastructure and the cloud.
- “Sensors at the edge can collect a wide swath of data -- machine vision, position, motion, temperature, humidity, sound, force, leaks and more. However, that data is only useful when it’s analyzed, and that analysis loses value each second it’s delayed. By bringing AI and compute power directly to edge devices, agencies can turn data from the growing number of IoT sensors into rapid, actionable insights."
