Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector, the only publication of its kind dedicated exclusively to Data & Analytics companies that share our passion for serving the Public Sector. Our featured items begin with the Census Bureau's RFI for Business Contact Phone and Email Data in support of their Economic Reimbursable Surveys Division. The agency intends to modernize their business contact strategies through the inclusion of third-party datasets that are matched and comingled with Census data.

  • Department of Commerce, US Census Bureau - RFI: Email Phone Data -"The USCB wants to acquire up-to-date contact information (addresses, government reporting contacts, emails, and phone numbers) for corporate offices, establishments, and non-employers operating in the United States. An establishment is a single physical location at which business is conducted or services or industrial operations are performed."

In other data news, on June 28th, Defense One published an article entitled Proposed Tech-Industry Legislation Would Hurt National Security. In this editorial, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper describes how certain aspects of pending Congressional legislation could force tech companies to break apart integrated security tools intended to screen for malware and spyware.

  • "The urge to reduce the power and influence of the technology companies is understandable and well-intentioned. But, there is danger in plunging head-long in achieving this goal, without due regard for the unintended consequences which could impair our national security. What is needed is a time-out while the legislation is subjected to a national security 'stress test.'"
