Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector,  the only publication of its kind dedicated exclusively to Data & Analytics companies that share our passion for serving the Public Sector. Our featured items begin with the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command's request for an online portal to support interactive investigations for both individuals and businesses around the globe. This looks to be an exciting new opportunity for our thriving community of readers - not only those with relevant data assets, but also those who license platforms that facilitate access and integration of that information.

In other data news, on August 3rd, Nextgov published an article entitled FTC Considering New Data Privacy Regulations That Go Beyond Asking Users for Consent.  In this story, Aaron Boyd describes how the FTC Commissioners are split on whether new regulations—and even the act of gathering information on a proposed new regulation—is the right way forward. The Commission is having a virtual public hearing on the topic on September 8th, and a registration link is provided in the article below.

  • "The Federal Trade Commission is considering establishing new rules for how companies collect, secure, use and sell consumers’ data that go beyond asking users to agree to opaque and often misleading terms of service. 'Specifically, the commission invites comment on whether it should implement new trade regulation rules or other regulatory alternatives concerning the ways in which companies collect, aggregate, protect, use, analyze, and retain consumer data, as well as transfer, share, sell, or otherwise monetize that data in ways that are unfair or deceptive,' states the notice set to publish Aug. 22 in the Federal Register."
