Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector, the only publication of its kind dedicated exclusively to Data & Analytics companies that share our passion for serving the Public Sector. This week, the Air Force Space Command released a solicitation to seeking data software services delivered in a cloud computing environment. The Space Command plans to award IDIQ contracts to multiple vendors, and is focused on improving the information delivery process, as well as overall data quality.

  • Department of Defence, Air Force Space Command — Request for Proposals - Data Software Services - This Statement of Work (SOW) is for a commercial solution with capabilities supporting a Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) platform. The government has transitioned to an agile approach toward software development to deliver advanced warfighter capabilities that require the aggregation of massive amounts of data from disparate sources and systems. The DaaS will assist the scaling of this effort by providing enterprise data storage and data management solutions capable of operating in secure environments and providing data products and advanced analytics to the broader space community.

In other data news, on January 18th, Nextgov published an article entitled NTIA Announces Request for Comment on Intersection of Data and Civil Rights. In this story, Edward Graham describes how the Commerce Department's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) is drafting a report about the civil rights implications of companies’ data practices as part of the White House’s continuing focus on data privacy protections.

  • The announcement of NTIA’s request for comment comes as the White House continues to highlight the need for enacting federal data privacy protections as part of a broader effort to reign in the perceived abuses of large technology companies. In an opinion piece published in the Wall Street Journal on Jan. 11, President Joe Biden called, in part, for 'serious federal protections for Americans’ privacy. That means clear limits on how companies can collect, use and share highly personal data—your internet history, your personal communications, your location, and your health, genetic and biometric data,' Biden wrote.”
