Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector, the only publication of its kind dedicated exclusively to Data & Analytics companies that share our passion for serving the Public Sector. Our featured items begin with the Treasury's Request for Information (RFI) on a wide array of online, financial data subscription services to support its market intelligence analytics work across a broad range of potential policy implications for U.S. financial institutions, including legal, regulatory, economic, financial health, inclusion, and innovation.

  • U. S. Department of the Treasury (Treasury), Office of the Treasury Library — Business analytics and market intelligence subscription services - The Treasury may have an upcoming opportunity for online subscription services to both a platform that provides business analytics and a database that provides market intelligence on private companies and investor activities for the Treasury’s Departmental Offices. The purpose of this Request for Information (RFI) is twofold: First, to gather the information that will assist the Departmental Offices in planning, formulating, and evaluating contractor capability to provide the online subscription services described in the Technical Requirements.  The Treasury Departmental Offices are also open to alternative ideas and respondents are encouraged to provide information about alternative solutions that may assist in better meeting future needs.

In other data news, on January 3rd, Government Executive published an article entitled How Federal Agencies Can Use Data to Promote Fair Housing. In this story, Temilola Afolabi describes how housing inequity is a systemic problem that pervades the U.S. marketplace -- in fact, over the last 60 years, this problem has not gone away, it has become worse. While the federal government has programs to fight housing discrimination, much more can be done and it starts with the use of effective data and analytics in new ways to promote fair housing and help close the racial home ownership gap.

  • While programs to fight housing discrimination have been in place for decades, federal agencies can do more. An issue brief from the nonprofit Center for Open Data Enterprise recently published by the IBM Center for the Business of Government, 'Leveraging Data to Improve Racial Equity in Fair Housing,' shows that agencies can use data and analytics in new ways to promote fair housing and help close the racial homeownership gap. Historical and current housing data is a critical tool for advancing racial equity by mapping the status of housing disparities, providing use cases for data analysis, and identifying challenges to be addressed.”
