Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector, the only publication of its kind dedicated exclusively to data and analytics companies that share our passion for serving the public sector. Our featured items begin with a request from the Department of Commerce for a solution that allows the agency to compile and analyze global supply chain data.

  • Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration (ITA), Office of the Assistant Secretary for Industry and Analysis (I&A) — ITA Supply Chain Analytics Solution - The International Trade Administration’s Industry and Analysis (I&A) unit is seeking information on how any interested and qualified vendors could provide international and domestic supply chain data reporting and analysis services. ... To better support this work and capture the value of rapidly growing data on global supply chains, I&A requires a software and data solution that compiles, vets, and identifies linkages and risks across multiple data sources on a variety of levels (i.e., country, product, industry, etc.) to assess supply chain vulnerabilities and exposures. This solution should allow I&A officers to assess vulnerabilities more efficiently at each step of the product’s supply chain. The solution must also allow for easy identification of corporate relationships and ownerships.

In other data news, on June 7th, Federal News Network published an article entitled Diplomacy takes more than diplomats, it also takes data. In this story, Tom Temin describes how the State Department recognized employees for their data-driven diplomacy efforts through the Data for Diplomacy awards.

  • We’re trying to locate things around the world. So it stands for location-based observations for conflict analysis, trends, and evidence. And what we do is focus on how we can take advantage of all of the new open-source and commercial data feeds and technologies and platforms that are out there to design foreign assistance and overseas programs to help the department become more data-driven in the work that we’re doing.”
