Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector, the only publication of its kind dedicated exclusively to Data & Analytics companies that share our passion for serving the Public Sector. Our featured items begin with the IRS's request for an information service provider that can deliver a diverse array of third-party consumer and business data to assist its agents in the field and at headquarters in locating taxpayers’ assets.
- Department of Treasury, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) - RAAS Asset and Locator Services - "The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Office of Business Solutions Acquisitions (OBSA), on behalf of IRS Research, Applied Analytics, and Statistics (RAAS) Office of Service-wide Policy, Directives, and Electronic Research (SPDER), is issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking electronic Asset and Locator Services that provide a powerful tax administration tool for IRS. The IRS seeks the ability to effectively locate people and businesses, as well as their assets, both domestically and internationally. To accomplish this, we need a tool that accurately consolidates data from various sources."
In other data news, on July 18th, Government Executive published an article entitled The SBA Watchdog Says Data, Collaboration and Proper Controls Are Vital for COVID Oversight. In this story, the Small Business Administration Inspector General says the agency “had to leverage data analytics like we've never leveraged it” and collaboration “was on hyper-speed.”
- "Data analytics and collaboration have been critical to oversight of the pandemic relief for small businesses, according to Hannibal “Mike” Ware, the Small Business Administration inspector general, who also stresses the need to implement proper controls before the federal government distributes funds. "Fortunately, a couple of years before the pandemic hit, we had kicked it off the ground and within our office with a huge investment in terms of getting data analytics off the ground."
