Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector, the only publication of its kind dedicated exclusively to Data & Analytics companies that share our passion for serving the Public Sector. Our featured items begin with a Request for Information (RFI) from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) seeking an online Investigative Search Subscription Service that supports the full spectrum of information-driven fraud and counterintelligence activities.

  • National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) — RFI - Investigative Search - NGA seeks an online investigative tool that supports investigations involving fraud, violations of law, rule, or regulation, conflicts of interest, personnel security suitability, counterintelligence, and potential threats to employees. This tool should be able to aggregate information, public and government records, for individuals, businesses, corporations, and properties. These records include, but are not limited to, credit bureau records, address history, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, social security numbers, businesses, criminal records, civil filings, bankruptcies, liens, associates, licenses, and work history

In other data news, on March 22nd, JD Supra published an article entitled CFPB Requests Information on Data Brokers and Business Practices. In this story, Jonathan Pompan and Michael Aphibal detail the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)'s request for information (RFI) on the practices businesses involved in the collection, use, and sale of consumer information.

  • The CFPB's RFI signals a potential to engage in rulemaking to cover data brokers, as Director Rohit Chopra expressed concern over data surveillance practices and the monetization of sensitive consumer data. The RFI considers data brokers to be firms that collect, aggregate, sell, resell, or license consumers' personal information or otherwise share it with other parties. The CFPB is requesting information about first-party and third-party data brokers on the types of data they collect, the sources they rely on, and the controls they implement to ensure the quality and accuracy of the data.”
