Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector, the only publication of its kind dedicated exclusively to data and analytics companies that share our passion for serving the public sector. This week, we highlight an opportunity from the IRS that prioritizes consulting services to enhance tax compliance and internal operations through research, data analysis, and model development. While the solicitation is focused on services, the requirements encompass multiple challenges where commercial data and analytics are likely to be significant components of the solution. We encourage interested providers to explore collaboration with a prime contractor or approach the IRS directly to offer their innovative solutions in this domain.

  • Department of Treasury, Internal Revenue Service — Data Analytics and Innovation Support 2.0 - The scope of the PWS includes creative application of data and analytic techniques to improve any of the IRS’s operations. This includes progressive uses of data and advanced analytic techniques to promote efficiency and effectiveness, drive innovation, and improve IRS tax governance, compliance, procedures, and operations. The IRS seeks to improve business processes by enhancing data models and analysis by identifying and addressing potential knowledge gaps and facilitate business decisions.

In other data news, on June 6th, FCW published an article entitled How some agencies used tech to decrease improper payments. In this story, Natalie Alms describes how federal agencies have successfully reduced improper payments using technology, analytics, and management tactics, according to a report by the Government Accountability Office.

  • The Federal Communications Commission and Universal Service Administrative Company — the not-for-profit that administers its Universal Service Fund Lifeline program — made improvements by launching a 'national verifier' program to standardize the eligibility review and process for enrollments in its Lifeline program, which helps low-income people pay for phone service. The program uses a combination of automated and manual processes.”
