Now onto our featured items, which begin with the Army's solicitation for a next-generation, cloud-based intelligence platform designed to enable real-time, cross-domain data sharing through data mesh architecture, knowledge graphs, and geospatial services. This multi-year IDIQ contract supports the development of a scalable, federated data ecosystem with advanced analytics and mission-focused intelligence products.

Department of Defense (DoD), U.S. Army, Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) Directorate of Intelligence (J2) — Enhanced Domain Awareness Program Development and Sustainment - The primary objective of the EDA program is to bridge the operational gaps between DoD, IC, interagency, and non-traditional international partners to enable real-time information sharing, dynamic data integration, and mission-tailored analytical capabilities. A key byproduct of this objective are the processes in which EDA is transforming the approach to decision-making by integrating data analytics and advanced analytic techniques, and by employing ontologies and knowledge graphs to enrich object-based intelligence (OBI), enabling the development of tradecraft-compliant, unclassified intelligence products that are more rapidly accessible and actionable across a broader array of stakeholders.
In other data news, on June 30th, BiometricUpdate.com published an article entitled Trump’s megabill expands biometric surveillance. In this story, Anthony Kimery describes how the Senate advanced H.R. 1, Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill," which allocates over $175 billion for immigration enforcement and includes $2.5 billion specifically for AI systems, biometric data collection platforms, and digital case tracking across ICE and CBP operations. The bill expands biometric surveillance infrastructure, including facial recognition, autonomous surveillance towers, and mobile biometric tools, while imposing a ten-year moratorium on state biometric privacy laws.
-
“The Security Industry Association (SIA), which supports the bill’s ten-year moratorium disallowing the states’ ability to regulate AI, said in a statement that, 'within the safety and security space, AI helps to better analyze and more quickly respond to information needed to protect lives and property, as we have all seen in the highly successful use cases deploying AI for detection capabilities along the border and analyzing digital evidence to revolutionize the fight against human trafficking.'”

How to Access NASA’s Climate Data — And How It’s Powering the Fight Against Climate Change | In 1988, we saw headlines like this: ‘Global Warming Has Begun, Expert Tells Senate.’ And while data science has played its role in revealing that we will likely surpass the 1.5 °C target set by the Paris Agreement, there is far more we could be doing. For one, people don’t believe it, yet the data is readily available, free, and easy to access. You can check it yourself! So in this episode, we will. We’ll also talk about the surprising and interesting ways this data is currently being utilized to combat the effects of climate change.

How the federal government can tackle its on-prem sensitive data dilemma | For decades, federal agencies have been accumulating on-prem sensitive data, also known as “data hoarding.” Much of this data is now forgotten, scattered across aging systems, and rarely accessed. This once-prudent stewardship now presents a pressing issue: sprawling on-prem sensitive data environments that obscure what is truly valuable, leading to operational inefficiency, wasted resources, and, most dangerously, creating blind spots that adversaries can exploit, posing a significant security risk.

The AI government fraud arms race: Are fraud fighters poised to turn the tables on AI-powered fraudsters? | As AI evolves, fraudsters increasingly misuse it to scale sophisticated attacks, overwhelming traditional defenses. The stakes are high: public trust, economic stability and global security. Governments must adopt AI-driven tools — not just to keep pace but to turn the tide. In this AI-powered arms race, governments must embrace advanced analytics and AI solutions, transforming these technologies from tools of fraud into shields of resilience.

Press Coverage Missing on the Big Data Surveillance Complex | Perhaps most disconcerting in this whole scenario is that too few citizens realize just how far their online footprints travel and how vulnerable their private information actually is.

Whitehall’s ambition to cut costs using AI is fraught with risk | The temptation is often to issue contracts to private companies to achieve the fastest and greatest impact. For the tech companies, a huge pot of revenue is at stake. The value of UK public sector tech contracts rose to £19.6bn last year, up from £14.4bn in 2019, according to Tussell, which researches government contracts. But introducing AI and automation into public services is riskier than using it to help drivers navigate busy roads or recommending songs to music fans. When citizens interact with public services they are often at their most vulnerable.

Feds look at new way to get food stamp data from Washington and other states | The Trump administration is taking a new approach in its attempt to snatch personal data of food stamp recipients from states. AI-driven impact bonds: Funding the future with predictive analytics | Here’s how this futuristic-sounding idea works: An investor steps up with initial funding for a social program, and instead of crossing fingers and hoping for the best, we let an AI model do the heavy lifting. By crunching historical trends, real-time data, and even external factors like economic or environmental conditions, AI predicts the impact our programs are likely to have. Based on these predictions, we can set clear, measurable outcomes that become the goals of our Impact Bond.
