In other data news, on November 3rd , FedScoop published an article entitled DHS seeks vast expansion of biometrics collection for immigration benefits. In this story, Matt Bracken describes how DHS has proposed a new rule to vastly expand its collection of biometrics, including DNA and iris scans, from anyone associated with an immigration benefit request, including U.S. citizen sponsors. This push aims to create a "person-centric" identity management system for immigration enforcement and reduce the agency's reliance on biographic data.

  • 'DHS has determined that it is necessary to expand its routine biometric collections to include individuals associated with immigration benefit requests or other requests or collection of information, and to perform other functions related to administering and enforcing the immigration and naturalization laws, such as verifying identity,' the posting states.”
