Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector, the only publication of its kind dedicated exclusively to data and analytics companies that share our passion for serving the public sector. Our featured items begin with the Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration (ITA), which seeks to procure a web-based platform for supply chain analytics to support its work on industry analysis and policy development. The platform should provide comprehensive data on supply chains, enable quick and independent analyses, and offer features such as data visualization, modeling, and alerts for potential disruptions.

Department of Commerce, Internatational Trade Administration (ITA) — Supply Chain Analytics Platform Procurement - This contract requires the platform to have wide-ranging data and analysis capabilities, including but not limited to: An array of key data points (including industry-specific statistics, firm names and beneficial ownership, supplier and customer relationships, production by sector/product/country, factory relationships, foreign value-added in production, market concentration/structure, and domestic and international prices), ideally from a multitude of sources that include proprietary, first-party, and other non-public data.
In other data news, on June 19th, CyberScoop published an article entitled Legislation preventing data broker sales to government agencies moves forward. In this story, Tonya Riley describes how the House Judiciary Committee advanced a bipartisan bill aimed at preventing data brokers from selling consumer data to law enforcement and federal agencies without warrants. The bill seeks to protect Fourth Amendment rights and address privacy concerns surrounding warrantless purchases of personal data. It may be included in a comprehensive surveillance reform package, reflecting a growing bipartisan consensus on regulating government access to data brokers.

“The Fourth Amendment is Not For Sale Act will restore Americans’ Fourth Amendment rights and stop the government from using its credit card when it should be getting a warrant,' (Ore. Dem. Sen. Ron) Wyden said. 'Regular Americans who use their phones on a daily basis are not consenting to send all their movements, contacts and web browsing information to the government. I applaud the Judiciary Committee for advancing our bill on a bipartisan basis, and look forward to following suit in the Senate.'”
