In other data news, on March 20th, NextGov published an article entitled DOGE allies want more online identity verification despite its mixed efficacy. In this story, Natalie Alms uncovers critical flaws in DHS-tested online identity verification systems, with only 5% effectively authenticating users at least 90% of the time. Her investigation challenges DOGE allies' claims of trillion-dollar fraud prevention, revealing a gap between promises and performance.

 

  • New testing results from the Department of Homeland Security’s research arm, however, show that the technology used to identity proof people online isn’t always effective. Digital identity verification solutions that require people to take a photo of their physical ID and a selfie to prove that they are who they claim to be proliferated across some benefit programs during the pandemic. ”

The object of this sole source award to Woods Hole Group is to have continued access to the satellite data from the ARGOS network that comes from transmitters attached to wild birds. Transmitters attached to wild birds collect GPS locations (stored on-board) until a regularly scheduled interval. On this interval, these locations are uploaded via the ARGOS satellite network to Woods Hole Group, Inc. where they are downloaded by USFWS staff.
