Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector, the only publication of its kind dedicated exclusively to Data & Analytics companies that share our passion for serving the Public Sector. Our featured items begin with the U.S. Space Force's request for a commercial solution supporting a Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) platform. In this effort, the government seeks a cloud-based solution to aggregate massive volumes of data from disparate sources, providing an environment where information can be analyzed, queried, and extracted.
- Department of Defense, U.S. Space Force, Space Systems Command, Data Software Services - "The DaaS will assist the scaling and aggregation of massive amounts of data from disparate sources and systems by providing enterprise data storage and data management solutions capable of operating in secure environments and providing data products and advanced analytics to the broader space community. The DaaS software offered by the contractor will be fielded in government-approved environments, connect to and integrate data from government-identified data sources into the DaaS, and deliver a dynamic ontology to model data for use within internal or external applications."
In other data news, on July 27th, CyberScoop published an article entitled US, UK law enforcement to implement data sharing law, troubling privacy advocates. The story focuses on the Department of Justice's use of a controversial 2018 law granting law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and U.K. easier access to data from technology and telecom companies.
- "Justice has said the legislation will 'speed access to electronic information held by U.S.-based global providers that is critical to our foreign partners’ investigations of serious crime.' In an announcement posted to its website, Justice hailed the inaugural partnership with the U.K. as the 'start a new era of cooperation.'"
