Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector, the only publication of its kind dedicated exclusively to data and analytics companies that share our passion for serving the public sector. Our featured items begin with the Federal Aviation Administration Logistics Center's efforts to establish a secure, scalable, and interoperable data integration and analytics platform that supports agency modernization goals and enhances decision-making for logistics, financial, systems engineering, and program management data.
-
Department of Transportation — FAALC Data Modernization and AI Integration - The platform must integrate both structured and unstructured data and make all data types usable throughout the platform. Unstructured data, such as HTML, free text, XML files, PDFs, or images, must be accessible to add context (e.g., viewing the PDF of an incident report) to analyses and enhance the abilities of data personnel to provide additional information. Users must be able to extract information of interest from unstructured data, using user-created custom logic or FAA’s third-party tools, and generate structured data that enriches the data layer.
In other data news, on January 23rd, DefenseScoop published an article entitled Advana updates left out of annual Pentagon financial report as major transition emerges. In this story, Brandi Vincent discusses the omission of any mention of Advana, DoD’s widely used analytics and AI data platform, in the Pentagon's FY2025 Agency Financial Report, just as leaders prepare a major transition and launch a new War Data Platform. DoD cites updated reporting standards and concision, but the omission raises transparency and performance questions, especially after officials confirmed an adverse SOC-1 audit that requires remediation.
-
“Questions should be asked — by the press and Congress — especially as the department continues to shout about its integration of AI and advanced technology. Why not continue to use and enhance the program you already have? Or, if it’s failing you, why not publicly acknowledge that to show your willingness to change and adapt as inefficiencies and programmatic failures are identified?”
Please take a moment to share our newsletter with anyone who you think might find it useful and/or interesting ... as the saying goes, "the more, the merrier!" - Click here to subscribe.
