Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector, the only publication of its kind dedicated exclusively to data and analytics companies that share our passion for serving the public sector. Our featured items begin with the Army’s call for contractors to support 24/7 data integration, management, and modernization for its intelligence systems. This effort centers on secure, cross-domain access to all-source intelligence and enhanced data platforms for tactical, joint, and allied operations.

  • Department of Defense, U.S. Army, Army Intelligence Security Enterprise (AISE) — Data Integration Modernization Services - The objective of this task order is to provide comprehensive operational intelligence integration and data-centric operations to support DCD customers across tactical, joint, interagency, allied, and coalition partners, including Army Service Component Commands (ASCC), Joint Task Force J-2s, and Combatant Commands. This activity provides intelligence consumers with a means to discover, access, and share relevant Intelligence Community (IC) reporting on the networks on which they operate including all-source and single-source intelligence. This activity executes 24 X 7 X 365 cross-domain solutions, secure network access support, data management, data and systems integration, and access to intelligence reporting across U.S. and multinational systems.

In other data news, on July 25th, NPR published an article entitled As USDA begins gathering data on food stamp recipients, it widens its ask of states. In this story, Jude Joffe-Block describes the USDA's requirement that states submit five years of sensitive personal data on all SNAP applicants and household members — including immigration and employment details — by July 30, as part of a Trump-era push to root out fraud and integrate siloed data systems. Critics argue the sweeping request raises major privacy and legal concerns, with unclear guardrails on how the information will be used or protected.

  • “'The new guidance from the USDA sheds some additional light on what types of sensitive data the agency is seeking on SNAP applicants and recipients, but the fact remains that we still don't have good answers for why the range of data they're requesting is needed or how it will be used,' said Nicole Schneidman, a technology policy strategist at the legal nonprofit Protect Democracy.”
