Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector, the only publication of its kind dedicated exclusively to data and analytics companies that share our passion for serving the public sector. Our featured items begin with NOAA’s pursuit of nationwide human mobility data, including device counts within polygons and origin data, to support environmental impact assessments and resource valuation.
In other data news, on December 19th, Defense One published an article entitled Pentagon preps to enforce ban on companies with ‘indirect’ ties to China. In this story, Lauren C. Williams describes the Pentagon's plans to warn defense contractors of indirect ties to blacklisted Chinese military firms a year ahead of a June 2027 contracting ban. By using supply chain “illumination” data to expose sub-tier ownership links, the strategy forces primes to clean up opaque vendor networks or risk losing eligibility.
-
“'There's a lot of firms that are doing business, either knowingly or unknowingly, with firms that are connected to [banned] firms,' Michael Cadenazzi, the Pentagon’s head of industrial base policy, said during an Atlantic Council event on Wednesday. 'We need to illuminate those challenges and those connections.'”
