Fed President Joins Us Tomorrow

This Tuesday at noon, we will host Philadelphia Federal Reserve District President Patrick Harker for a discussion about the regional economy and key Delaware industries. Among the questions or topics, he’s likely to touch on are issues like interest rates, inflation, and workforce training and development. The Congress and the Federal Reserve have boosted the economy with trillions of dollars in stimulus. What are the implications of that for the economy and specifically wages, borrowing costs, rent and mortgage rates, the cost of food and more?

Another layer we’ll explore with President Harker relates to the results of the recently completed U.S. Census and Delaware data. What do our changing demographics tell us about ourselves, and what does the pace of these evolving changes mean to our future? Yes, we are becoming an “older” state, but the implications of that reality touch more than just healthcare.

Consumer Price Index figures for March are released Tuesday morning. Fed Chairman Jerome Powell speaks this Wednesday. On Thursday, March or early April data ranging from jobless claims, retail sales, the Philadelphia Fed manufacturing index, industrial production rates, and February business inventories data are all public. We end a busy week with March building permits and housing starts figures.
