Call to Action! Preserve Medicaid

On February 25, the House of Representatives narrowly passed a resolution to move ahead with action aimed to curb federal spending by approximately $880B over the next 10 years.

The majority of those “savings” are expected to come from the Medicaid program.

Any effort to change or otherwise reform the Medicaid program must consider the impact of such change upon people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities, in order to prevent unintended harmful consequence.

It is more important than ever that we mobilize our grassroots, engage our congressional delegation, and protect the critical supports and services people with intellectual and developmental disabilities rely on.

We are imploring each person receiving this message to take a few minutes to participate in The Arc US one-click campaign here. This will send a letter directly to your Congressional representative.

After you take action, please share this within your personal and professional networks, either by email or on social media and encourage others to engage in our efforts. Use the hashtags #ProtectMedicaid #WeActWednesday.

In addition to sending the letter, there are options within the one-click to:

1. Be directly connected via phone to your representative
2. Send a pre-written message via X/Twitter to your representative

Please consider taking all three actions, as they all share our message and help The Arc convey the overall impact when they meet with legislators in Washington.

Once you’ve sent your letter via the one-click, we are asking each person receiving this message to contact your congressional representative to schedule an in-person or virtual meeting.

Legislators should be in their local districts during the week of March 17 when Congress is in recess. Find your legislators here.

• Many legislators have Town Hall meetings during recess. While some publish their public calendars online, you might need to call to ask. Following them on social media is also a great way to get first-hand information.
