Call to Action:

Share Your Medicaid Story with the Media!

As we fight together to preserve federal Medicaid funding, your stories are the foundation of our advocacy. We urge you to tell your personal story about the value of Medicaid programs, and your fears about the effect cuts to Medicaid could have on your life.

We've been continually sharing resources to support your advocacy, and help you tell your story effectively. The newest tool in that toolbox is a template op-ed to make it easier for Board Members to share their story with local media. Download the template here. Over the next two weeks, we are asking Board Representatives from every Chapter to submit an op-ed to their local media outlets.

We encourage the Public Relations staff at each Chapter to support this effort by helping Board Members connect with media in your area. If you need additional guidance, please reach out to Kate Geurin, Director of Communications and Public Relations. And of course, if you get published, we want to hear about it. Send us a link so we can share it far and wide!

We expect the budget reconciliation process to continue over the next weeks and months. We need to keep sending letters, making calls, meeting with our legislators, and sharing our stories publicly whenever possible.

Please continue to use the tools we've shared previously and take action!

  1. Send a letter to your legislator by clicking here
  2. Call your legislator to tell your story. Leave a message and ask for an appointment. Find your legislator here.
  3. Meet with your representative to explain how devastating Medicaid cuts would be to you and your family. You can find an info sheet with talking points here.
  4. Strengthen our advocacy efforts by sharing your Medicaid story with The Arc New York here.

Continued Congressional Outreach

The Arc New York State Office is also keeping the pressure on! Following our recent visit to Washington, D.C., we sent a letter to Congressional Representatives thanking them for meeting with us and encouraging them to continue to support people with I/DD in the federal budget process. We also sent a letter to Rep. Elise Stefanik asking for a meeting and encouraging a visit to one of our many sites in her large district.
