You will not hear this from the main stream media, but President Trump successfully nominated more federal judges than President Obama did during his first year in office. Since the President was elected, he has tirelessly worked to reverse the damage done to our courts. The role of judges is to interpret and preserve the language of the Constitution. We can no longer afford to appoint judges that base the law on evolving norms.
Following the passing of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, the President nominated Neil Gorsuch to fill his place. Justice Gorsuch is a proven constitutional judge. One of the first cases he heard was Trinity Lutheran Church v. Comer, and he and six other justices ruled in favor of the church from Columbia, Missouri. I am encouraged by Gorsuch's voting record thus far and am grateful that the Court has stood for religious liberty when my constituents depended on it.
Congress and the President have the opportunity to fill more than 100 vacancies in the federal courts. It is vital that we support the President's efforts to appoint constitutional, conservative judges. They will serve lifetime appointments and make lasting decisions on issues ranging from immigration to Second Amendment rights.
The Democrats in Congress have attempted to block the President's nominations. They have conducted unfair confirmation hearings and defied Trump's recommendations, despite the nominees' credentials. We must work hard to ensure that strong Republicans are elected to the House and Senate to further the President's agenda.
