Hi Derek,
Hopefully you remember you’ve been awarded Federal Work-Study (FWS) as part of your 2023-24 financial aid offer. If not, then this is your reminder!
As an FWS-awarded student, you can choose to work on campus in one of our university departments or off campus at a local community service organization that serves the needs of our local and surrounding communities. So, get ready to learn new skills, build your résumé and earn a biweekly paycheck. First, however, you’ll need to select your FWS job. Here’s how!
Select Your FWS Job Beginning Friday, September 1, 2023 at 9am ET
- Open jwuLink > go to the Tools menu > Jobs & Internships > Handshake
- Enter PVD - Federal Work-Study in the Search bar to filter for all available FWS positions
- Click Quick Apply to apply to the job you’re interested in.
Note: Scroll down for screenshot samples.
Important Information
- Attend your Federal Work-Study Meet-and-Greet on August 31 to learn about available FWS positions. More information can be found in the Providence Campus Student Employment Group.
- Positions are first-come, first-served, and some positions may fill up more quickly than others. Your best chance to see the greatest number of available FWS positions is to log in to Handshake on September 1.
- You’re not required to submit a cover letter or résumé to secure an FWS job for 2023-24.
- If the position you select is no longer available, you’ll receive an email that asks you to select another job. Please do not select more than one job.
- You may not work in more than one on-campus position simultaneously.
- If you don’t hear from your manager within a few days, contact them directly to let them know you have selected their job.
- Transfers are not generally granted, so select your job carefully. Remember to view job descriptions and make sure you meet requirements (dress code, availability, etc.).
- Select your job during the first few weeks of the academic year so you can earn your full award!
If you have any questions or need help with the job selection process, contact Student Employment at student.employment@jwu.edu, 401-598-1849, or 401-598-2868.
Next Steps (keep reading for things you need to do before you can begin working)
