Calgary Jewish Federation's Holocaust and Human Rights Remembrance and Education and the Calgary Public Library present The Light of Days: The Untold Stories of Women Resistance Fighters in Hitler's Ghettos on Wednesday, April 7 at 7:00pm. Don't miss an unforgettable conversation with Judy Batalion as she discusses her highly anticipated book. It is one of the most important stories of World War II that brings to light the extraordinary accomplishments of brave Jewish women who became resistance fighters – a group of unknown heroes whose exploits have never been chronicled in full, until now. Register for this free event.
Calgary Jewish Federation's Holocaust and Human Rights Remembrance and Education invite you to our annual Yom HaShoah Virtual Commemoration on Thursday, April 8 at 7:00pm. This special ceremony will honour and remember the victims of the Holocaust and pay tribute to the Survivors, and their remarkable journey to freedom and a return to life. We invite you to visit the Holocaust Memorial at the JCC on April 8 or 9 to say kaddish and lay a rock in memory of those murdered in the Shoah. No registration is required. An email will be sent out to the community on Wednesday, April 7 with the link or you can access from our website. Email for more information.
Our community's Integrated Bursary Program (IBP) continues to accept applications, with a first tier deadline of April 9. If your family requires support to enable participation in The Calgary Jewish Academy, Halpern Akiva Academy, Camp BB Riback, and/or summer camp and membership at The Paperny Family JCC, our community wants to help. Registration of all mentioned schools and camps remains open. Please ensure to register for the desired programs directly, in addition to applying to IBP. Contact the institutions directly with specific inquiries.
Calgary Jewish Federation is aware of the concerns expressed by a number of community members regarding the recently released K-6 Alberta curriculum. We are internally reviewing content, delivery expectations, and identifying points for strategic interventions and feedback opportunities with the government. For now, if community members have pressing concerns, we encourage them to reach out directly to their local MLAs or weigh in on this government survey.
