Israel's ambassador to Canada, Nimrod Barkan shared his insights on challenges facing Israel with 30 community leaders on August 22. We thank the ambassador for making time for this community briefing and we look forward to many more opportunities for dialogue.
Part of Federation's work is to welcome newcomers to Calgary, though our Shalom Calgary program. Our latest "Meet and Greet", at Lake Midnapore, helped fill the park with more than 40 guests - a great way to make new friends and enjoy the summer!
Birthright Israel, a program that offers free trips to Israel for adults under 26 years of age, offered an exclusively LGBTQ trip last month for the first time. As Calgary participant and madricha (leader) Jaclyn Finestone says: "The entire trip felt like a dream. We spent 9 months training, prepping and planning for a 10 day experience that was more than we had ever hoped for." For Jaclyn's full account of the trip click here.
JAC’s 2017 UJA Campaign Chair, Danielle Braitman, was one of the young leaders from around the world who spent a week of learning, networking and fun in Israel this summer as part of Kesher - The Julia Koschitzky Seminar for Keren Hayesod UIA Young Leadership.
