Last night, we came together to mark Kristallnacht, reflecting on the horrific events of that night and remembering the victims of antisemetism. The program included a screening of 999: The Forgotten Girls, a documentary directed by Heather Dune Macadam, which tells the powerful story of 999 young Slovak Jewish women deported to Auschwitz in 1942, shedding light on their incredible resilience. A heartfelt thank you to the Calgary Jewish Film Festival, Beth Tzedec Congregation, and the Holocaust and Human Rights: Remembrance and Education department for their collaboration in making this event possible.

JAC goes to the Jewish Film Festival! Join us next Saturday, November 16 at 7:00pm at Beth Tzedec Congregation for a double-feature of powerful films! First, don’t miss Seven Blessings. The film follows a Moroccan-Jewish family celebrating a wedding with Sheva Brachot (Seven Blessings). As they honor the newlyweds, long-buried secrets and unresolved tensions rise to the surface.

Afterward, stay for Unspoken, a tender coming-of-age drama about Noam, a closeted gay teenager in a Modern Orthodox Jewish community. While going through his late grandfather’s belongings, Noam discovers a hidden love letter that forces him to confront his family’s past and his own journey toward self-acceptance.

This event is open to the entire community but JAC members (ages 25-40) can get special pricing by purchasing their tickets here. This admission includes screening to both movies, snacks and a cozy blanket.

Finally, don’t miss We Will Dance Again on Sunday, November 10 at 7:00pm, a powerful documentary about resilience in the face of tragedies of October 7. This screening is free to attend.
