Noteworthy news from the Calgary Jewish Federation family
June 30, 2017 | 6 Tammuz, 5777
Congratulations to Yannai Segal, Calgary Jewish Federation's incoming President, and Todah Rabah to outgoing President Bruce Libin! Your strong leadership has taken us from strength to strength. Bruce "passed the baton" at Federation's recent Annual General Meeting on June 21st. At the same event, committed community volunteers were deservedly honoured with Shem Tov Awards. Kol Hakavod! The impact of PJ Library┬« Calgary on our community was clearly illustrated in a U.S./Canada wide survey by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation (founders of PJ Library). The responses from 25,000 PJ families proved that the program works well in engaging young Jewish families, and that PJ Library Calgary is well above average on metrics of success. Congratulations to Federation's Kathie Wainer for all her hard work making PJ Library Calgary a shining example to emulate!
The story of Jewish immigration and life in Canada was the theme of the Canada150 celebration hosted by Calgary Jewish Federation, Calgary JCC and Jewish Historical Society of Southern Alberta on June 25th. The large crowd enjoyed music by the JCC Klezmer Band, and a presentation by Sandra Morton-Weizman, curator of the Canadian Jewish Experience exhibit on display at the JCC until July 6. Thank you to MLAs Ricardo Miranda and Anam Kazim and City Counsellor Diane Colley-Urquhart for joining our celebration.
Thank you to Bea Yuffe for making
her milestone birthday a tzedakah
opportunity. In lieu of gifts, Bea asked her friends to donate to the Yachad Fund at Calgary Jewish Federation which helps children in need with everything from a Bar Mitzvah suit to socks and underwear, or even a gift for a birthday party.
