As the incomparable Elie Wiesel once stated, “When you listen to a witness, you become a witness,” and over 100 people, primarily students, had the honour of hearing a Holocaust Survivor speak at L’Dor V’Dor on March 11th, a luncheon sponsored by Federation and Jewish Family Service Calgary. There were 10 Survivors present - some who have spoken before and some who’d never before told their stories in public. Those in attendance will never forget .
The March of the Living for High School students will be embarking to Poland and Israel right after Passover to meet up with 10,000 other teens from around the world. The students have been studying and preparing for weeks for this once in a lifetime opportunity to learn about anti-Semitism, human rights, and the Shoah. We wish them a meaningful and safe trip. For information about future March of the Living trips, contact Ilana Krygier Lapides , 403-444-3162.
Canada's Ambassador to Israel, Deborah Lyons , stopped in Calgary yesterday as part of a western tour, meeting with Jewish Federations, politicians, and other groups, to discuss trade and business relations, as well as current issues in the Middle East.
It's never too late to have a party, so Hillel Calgary celebrated Purim this past week with a 1970s theme. Your gift to Federation's UJA campaign helps maintain and grow a Jewish presence on campus for students from U of C, SAIT and MRU .
