We wish continued safe travels to the 13 teens and chaperones from Calgary, joining their peers in the Coast-to-Coast group of March of the Living. On this meaningful trip from April 9 - 24, thousands of Jewish teens will visit Jewish sites in Poland, march en mass between Auschwitz and Birkenau, and spend a week in Israel for Yom Hazikaron and Yom Haatzmaut. This program is partially funded and administered in Calgary by Calgary Jewish Federation.
Our community commemorated Yom Hashoah on the evening of April 11 at the Memorial outside the JCC, continuing at Beth Tzedec. The theme "Hidden Children of the Holocaust" was conveyed with a historical background by Dr. Scott Murray of Mount Royal University, and the personal story of Irene Ross. Irene's daughter KatherineRoss and husband Stuart Ross added to her very moving narrative of being a hidden child in Holland.
For 13 years, Bob Edwards School has hosted a Diversity and Peace Conference on March 21, the International day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. As part of this year’s day-long conference, CJF’s Judy Shapiro presented on a panel with representatives of other religions in the World Peace Village. The Model Seder enjoyed by Kesher members, their families and friends on March 25, was a great opportunity to prepare for and celebrate Pesach. Thank you to Rabbi Mark Glickman for leading the proceedings.
