February is Jewish Disability Awareness, Acceptance & Inclusion Month (JDAIM)

On Sunday, February 4 at 3:30pm, we have the privilege of hosting renowned author and scientist Bonnie Kaplan, who will present Your Brain on Food: Cultivating Wellness and a Peaceful Home. She will share practical tools for preventing and improving moodiness, stress, behaviour, meltdowns, and more – all through the transformative power of nutrition. Healthy snacks and childcare provided. Everyone is welcome to register for this free session at the Paperny Family JCC.

normal schmormal jdaim

Get ready for a hilarious and groundbreaking event on Sunday, February 25 from 3 to 5pm. We are pleased to present our first-ever, JDAIM inspirational, stand-up comedy afternoon: Normal Schmormal! This free event features none other than Ashley Blaker, the star of BBC Radio 4's hit comedy 6.5 Children, as he takes to the road in a new stand-up show (based on his best-selling book of the same name) about the joys of raising children with special needs. Between endless meetings, countless therapists, public humiliations, failed playdates, and surreal monologues, it's certainly not what anyone would call a 'normal' household – but would Ashley want it any other way? Find out what he says and register now! Don't miss out on this family-friendly experience at the Paperny Family JCC. Childcare is provided, along with engaging activities for the kids.

jdaim inclusion

In conjunction with JDAIM, join us on Sunday, February 25 for a collective of Inclusion Champion Agencies at the Paperny Family JCC. This resource fair and networking session will be open from 1:00 to 3:00pm and 5:30 to 6:30pm, featuring vendors from various service groups and non-profit organizations who make Calgary a welcoming place for all. For additional information email Inclusion Manager Karina Szulc or call her at 403-444-3158.

Did you know? Jewish Disability Awareness, Acceptance & Inclusion Month (JDAIM) was launched 15 years ago in February 2009 by members of the Jewish Special Education Consortium. The purpose of JDAIM is to unite Jewish communities to raise awareness and champion the rights of all Jews – including Jews with disabilities – to be respected, valued, and included in all aspects of Jewish community life. For additional information about Inclusion in our community or if you would like to volunteer and/or contribute, email Inclusion Manager Karina Szulc or call her at 403-444-3158.
