Our Holocaust and Human Rights: Remembrance and Education department has been very busy over the past month. Our annual community Yom HaShoah commemoration was held at the Paperny Family JCC and Beth Tzedec Congregation. A wonderful event with author Bonny Reichert about her powerful memoir, "How to Share an Egg: A True Story of Hunger, Love, and Plenty" was well attended at the Calgary Central Library. In coordination with the Consulate General of Israel, we honoured the remarkable lifesaving efforts of Pietertje, Willem, and Jacob Tensen at Temple Bnai Tikvah with a private Righteous Among the Nations ceremony.
Finally, from May 4 to 15, our annual Holocaust Education Symposium was held at the Calgary Central Library. Over 2,400 high school students experienced interactive keynote presentations on the Holocaust and antisemitism by Dr. George Dalbo and Logan Greene, listened to the testimonies from survivors and their descendants, and toured the One Thread, Six Million Lives exhibit. We are grateful to Holocaust and Human Rights: Remembrance and Education Coordinator Amy Glassman-Boiko, our partner organizations and hosts, volunteers, educators, and donors who continue to make these meaningful programs possible.
