Keeping our community informed, inspired, and connected to Jewish life in Delaware and the Brandywine Valley, in Israel, and around the world.
weekly message to the community from the president and ceo...
Friend

Good morning.

Congratulations to Isaac Herzog on being elected Israel's 11th President, taking over from Reuven Rivlin. Herzog is a veteran politician, the former head of the Labor Party, a former leader of opposition, a former welfare and diaspora minister and is the son of Chaim Herzog, who served as Israel's president from 1983 to 1993. He is currently the Chairman of the Jewish Agency. In these challenging times, we wish Bougie tremendous success.

I attended a webinar on Wednesday hosted by the Endowment for Middle East Truth (EMET) entitled, The Symbolism of Palestinian Terror, featuring Aboubakr Mansour. Antisemitic incitement has been a stable of Palestinian propaganda for decades. With social media, incitement for violence took a new turn as it assumed a life of its own. Mansour looked into how symbolic systems are created and deployed to create psychological conditions for young Palestinians that produce such violence in a specific prescribed way and coordinate such actions between individuals. Click here to watch a recording of the webinar. Click here to read Mansour's recent piece, Symbolic Warfare in the Middle East.

Dignity Grows is a new Women's Philanthropy initiative of Federation that provides monthly personal and feminine products to women, girls and individuals assigned female at birth, who cannot afford them. We thank the volunteers who packed bags Thursday morning and Chairs, Michelle Silberglied, Nancy Crain, and Kimberly Felzer. Click here to learn more about Dignity Grows.

On Thursday afternoon I attended another webinar, Keeping Safe, Being Secure: Introduction to Situational Awareness Training, hosted by the Secure Community Network (SCN). SCN is the official homeland security and safety initiative of Jewish Federations of North America. Given the increase in antisemitic incidents and violence directed at members of the Jewish community - both internationally and in the U.S. - experts shared how to improve awareness of your surroundings as well as report and react to situations that can occur anywhere at any time – whether at the synagogue, on the street, or online.

Please join us virtually on Thursday, June 10th at 6:00pm for Federation's Annual Meeting. Click here to register.
