As the CEO of Ronald McDonald House Pittsburgh Morgantown, I have the privilege of meeting the most compassionate and generous people who give from their hearts in many ways, ensuring families coming to Ronald McDonald House have the comforts of home when their child’s medical care requires them to be away from home. As unique as every family is, every journey is, so too are the stories of our donors and partners. How they give, why they give—all of which reflect generous people who believe in helping.

In a recent conversation with a donor who has been supporting the organization’s mission and the families it serves for more than a decade, I gained valuable insights and thought you would enjoy hearing his unique perspective and motivations for giving.

My wife and I started supporting the families at Ronald McDonald House Pittsburgh Morgantown after I attended the organization’s golf outing with a friend. At the outing, a family was there and spoke about their child’s medical journey. All I could think of was how lucky I was to have two beautiful, healthy girls. That was what made the decision to support the House however we could, and luckily, it came at the same time as our business began to grow and become more successful.

Being involved with the Ronald McDonald House has been one of the most satisfying things to me. As a Board Member for many years, I know the impact our support has on families who rely on the organization’s services, motivating us to help even more children and their families with other giving.

As we make our philanthropic decisions each year, we keep our extended family aware of our choices. We believe it is important to pass these values on to the next generations. We primarily use our Donor Advised Fund, that my daughter and I manage. This fund will continue after us, leaving future charitable choices to the next generations.

I encourage anyone who is considering giving to a charity to arrange a visit to that organization. I believe that will easily make the decision for you. For years, I have recommended friends and families to tour the Ronald McDonald House. The tour we took inspired us and, each time we visit, we are confident that our giving matters.

This conversation, and the heartfelt expression of gratitude from the donor, was truly a gift. Any time I can have this type of dialogue, it’s a powerful reminder that there are kind and generous individuals who thoughtfully consider how they can make a difference. When they choose Ronald McDonald House Pittsburgh Morgantown, there’s a level of trust that comes with it. It’s my honor to fulfill not only our mission, but the intent of each and every donor who supports our families.
