A Journey of Growth and Hope

Shilo's Story

Shilo heard about Hushabye Nursery through the CMS Clinic, the hospital, and several trusted friends who were in recovery. There were multiple signs to show her the way. What she didn’t know then was just how deeply her life—and her family's—was about to change.

Shilo and her partner Jacob arrived at Hushabye filled with uncertainty but open to something new. “Our growth is absolutely an accomplishment,” Shilo says with quiet pride. “We’ve learned to communicate healthily. I’m so proud of how far Jacob and I have come.”

Through their journey, Shilo discovered something powerful: she is more than capable of being the mother her son deserves. “I learned to ask for help, and to trust others for advice,” she shares.

“Everyone at Hushabye was so amazing. We felt at ease and comfortable there.”

Her story is one of courage, commitment, and transformation. It’s also a powerful reminder of what’s possible when families are met with compassion, dignity, and support.

Bruce & Maria Hansen

For Bruce and Maria Hansen, volunteering at Hushabye Nursery has become much more than an act of service—it’s become one of the most meaningful parts of their lives.

After becoming empty nesters, Bruce and Maria were looking for a way to give back and fill some of the quieter days and evenings ahead. They discovered Hushabye at just the right time, and over the past year, they’ve become a steady and beloved presence in the nursery.

“Volunteering at Hushabye is the best therapy for both of us,” they shared. “We love snuggling the babies and making connections with staff and families!”

The Hansens find deep inspiration in the teamwork they witness daily and in the overwhelming attitude of gratitude that fills the halls of Hushabye. They describe their experience as far surpassing what they ever imagined, calling the blessings they've received “more than we hoped for.”

The impact of Hushabye has not only touched their hearts—it’s changed their outlook. “We feel so inspired to make more of a difference in our community,” they said.

“While we can volunteer our time, we are truly the benefactors of an amazing community.”

When asked to describe Hushabye in just three words, they didn’t hesitate: Loving. Calming. Empowering.

Gloria has been at Hushabye only a few months, but it already feels like she was destined to work here. She is a natural nurturer who is compassionate and supportive with our clients and families, often going above and beyond to ensure they feel safe and loved and their needs are met.
