At Hushabye Nursery, resilience isn’t just a word — it’s a heartbeat. It pulses through the tiny cries of babies working hard to heal, in the trembling hands of parents choosing courage over fear, and in every team member who shows up with grit and love, day after day. We’ve faced hard seasons, but we’ve never faced them alone. This community has wrapped its arms around us — lifting, cheering, and believing in our mission when it mattered most. Together, we are creating something beautiful out of brokenness. Thank you for being part of this extraordinary journey.

Hushabye Nursery
Family Spotlight
Liz and Oakland
When Liz first heard about Hushabye Nursery, she was in jail—uncertain about her future but determined to make a change. A flyer caught her eye. She took a chance, and that chance changed everything.
“I had a great experience,” Liz shared. “Janelle was able to pick me up from prison and put me in a hotel, which greatly improved my chances of sobriety.” For Liz, it wasn’t just about having a place to stay—it was about being seen, supported, and given the dignity to start over.
Liz says one of the most powerful lessons she learned through her Hushabye journey was the importance of asking for help—and being open to receiving it. “That’s one of the best supports you can have toward your recovery.”
| | Genuine is the word Liz choses to describe Hushabye. That word speaks volumes—about the care, the people, and the mission of Hushabye Nursery. Liz’s story is one of many, but it reminds us that with the right support and compassion, healing is always possible. | | | |
Volunteer Spotlight
Lisa Balow
Each week, Lisa Balow walks through our doors with a heart full of love and a desire to give. But if you ask her what keeps her coming back, her answer is beautifully simple: “I believe that in giving, we receive. After I’ve served at Hushabye, my heart is full. It helps me face the week with more love. Mother Teresa once said, ‘It’s not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.’ That’s exactly how I feel.”
Lisa's journey as a volunteer has been transformational. What began as an act of service has become a deeply personal mission, reshaping her perspective on life, love, and second chances.
“This experience has changed every preconceived idea I had about the parents we serve. These moms and dads may have made mistakes, but watching them work so hard to 'right their wrongs' is humbling. Hushabye has helped me lead with love more in my own life.”
And while the quiet moments of rocking a baby to sleep or folding a freshly laundered swaddle are impactful in their own right, it’s the small victories and joyful milestones that leave lasting impressions.
In just three words, Lisa captures the spirit of Hushabye Nursery: Compassionate. Nurturing. Amazing.
| | When asked what the most rewarding part of her role is, her eyes light up.“It’s seeing the babies respond to snuggles. But I also love watching the parents engage—seeing their commitment and courage. This program gives them a real shot at successful parenting, and that’s powerful to witness.” | |
"Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen."

How Can You Make a Difference
At Hushabye Nursery, we’re often asked, “How can I help?” The truth is supporting a nonprofit goes far beyond donating money. In honor of the summer season, here are three simple, impactful ways you can support a mission you care about:
-
Share your story. Tell your friends about us. Share this newsletter or a social Media post.
- Host a donation drive. While getting together with friends for coffee, have everyone bring a box of diapers.
- Engage your employer. Many companies offer matching donations. Give your donations a little extra punch by getting them involved.
