The Spirit of Bastrop in Every Cut: Chubby’s Barbershop
Chubby’s Barbershop has become one of the community’s most recognizable homes for craft barbering and genuine connection. Owner Chris “Chubby” Higgins has deep roots in Bastrop, with family ties going back several generations. Located on historic Main Street, the shop blends oldschool tradition with a modern sensibility, offering a space that feels both familiar and refreshingly contemporary. Chris opened the barbershop with the vision of creating a place where people feel welcome, appreciated, and part of something local and real.
From the moment you step inside, Chubby’s has a personality all its own. The shop’s warm, easygoing atmosphere reflects Chris’s belief that a haircut should be an experience, not an errand. Whether it’s a classic cut, a clean fade, or a welltailored beard trim, Chris and his team approach every service with precision and pride. Clients know they’ll walk out looking sharp, but just as often, they leave with a smile from the conversations, the laughs, or the familiar faces they encounter along the way.
Over the years, Chubby’s has become a gathering place for everyone from young kids getting their first cut to longtime locals who’ve been with the shop since day one. Chris has a gift for remembering names, stories, and preferences, creating a sense of comfort that keeps clients coming back. His commitment to consistency and quality has made Chubby’s a favored stop not only for Bastrop residents but also for visitors passing through.
What truly sets Chubby’s Barbershop apart is its deep connection to the Bastrop community. Chris is passionate about supporting local events, contributing to neighborhood initiatives, and celebrating the spirit of the town he calls home. In many ways, the shop reflects Bastrop itself—friendly, hardworking, and full of character. As Chubby’s continues to grow, Chris remains committed to the values that started it all: great service, authentic community, and a welcoming place where everyone feels at home.
