Orange Coast Magazine Names Butcher's House Brasserie their 2022 Restaurant of the Year | |
Butcher's House Brasserie wasn't even a gleam in Jeoffrey Offer's eye when COVID-19 arrived. He was too busy running the kitchens of Moulin to contemplate much else until restaurants closed in March 2020. Suddenly idle, this butcher's son could crystallize a plan to go solo, and his dream brasserie was born in the final rainy days of December 2021.
Previously inhabited by Pueblo, the kitchen’s new heart is a Santa Maria-style grill that seasons half the menu’s dishes with notes of almond and citrus wood smoke. Dry-aged steaks and chops are center stage, supported by burgers, salads, and sides. Dazzling house specialties are versatile small plates, including a potent Toulouse sausage—house-made with large-grind pork in a snappy casing. Rustic pork pâté and spicy lamb Merguez sausage are also from scratch. Duck confit is pitch perfect. Offer is a native son of Toulouse, and these dishes reveal much pride and affection for his French homeland.

Paradise Dynasty is Also Featured in the Best New Restaurants 2022
Last September, long lines snaking out the door of Bloomingdale’s South Coast Plaza signaled the arrival of Paradise Dynasty—and revealed that our appetite for luxury dumplings has yet to peak. Despite the popularity of neighbor Din Tai Fung, there’s enough dumpling adoration to share with this Singapore export founded by restaurant superstar Edwin Chua. Sleek and straightforward, the dining room surrounds a glass kitchen showcasing nimble dumpling artists.

Construction Continues on the New OCMA Building
With approximately 20 more weeks until the grand opening, OCMA is excited to share the latest progress on the new building:
- The terra cotta installation on the West elevation is complete
- The metal wall panels are being installed on the West elevation
- The education pavilion walls are being painted
- Layout and installation of clips on the Grand Staircase is ongoing
- Elevator 1 has been completed and signed off on for temporary use

Hana Field opens at 10:00 am, and the last entry is at 4:00 pm. Fields close promptly at 5:00pm.

OC Fair Returns on July 15!
"Feel the Sunshine" will be the theme of the 2022 Orange County Fair, which will be back July 15 through August 14.
Tickets are on sale now!
Returning OC Fair favorites include monster trucks and demo derbies in Action Sports Arena, magician Frank Thurston, Brew Hee Haw craft beer fest, pig races and, of course, crazy fair food.

L.A.-based Dear Bella Creamery begins expansion, starting in Costa Mesa | |
Dear Bella Creamery is opening this summer at The Lab in Costa Mesa. Headquartered in Hollywood, this new O.C. scoop shop is the first in a plan to expand across Southern California and beyond.
Founders Alice Cherng and chef Belinda Wei, vegans and best friends, opened the all natural plant-based creamery in 2017 because they wanted to recreate the creamy, dreamy frozen treats that they remembered from their childhoods. The brand’s hip/now flavors include Taiwanese Pineapple Cake, Mango Sticky Rice, Sweet Red Bean, Royal Tea Time and Halva. Of course they make favorites like Cookies N Cream, Birthday Cake, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Peanut Butter Cup.
An opening date has not yet been set but plans are in place to host a celebration with free ice cream scoops for the first 100 guests, an ice cream cake cutting, gifts and prizes, a live DJ and more.
