A Note from Scott and Marsha

What a beautiful week of weather we had last week but seriously, let's turn the sunshine back on! Last Saturday, I actually shopped like a customer at the garden center with two of my adorable friends, Nick and Kathy. Every now and then, I try to act like a normal person but it's so difficult. I overheard a customer say, "Gosh, I really want a job here."
My normalcy went out the window and I immediately encouraged her to apply and work weekends! This is why they don't let me in the garden very often. LOL!
Last week, Scott and I celebrated our anniversary. It's been 31 years. Thirty-one years. Treinta y uno. Trentuno. Trente et un ... 31. Some people will say, "We have been married 31 years and 3 of those were great years!"
I would say we have had 31 years of adventure. You don't own a business, have three kids, three dogs, say goodbye to great friends, lose loved ones, celebrate milestones, raise teenagers, college students, marry them off, have a grandbaby, survive three decades and one pandemic in your lifetime and not call it an adventure. Scott has been my biggest adventure, even during the most challenging times of our life. One favorite person and mentor, Pat, has said to us many times, "Life is messy and like a mixture."
You learn to live with triumphs and disappointments that all may happen within 15 minutes of one another. The last two years have defined that statement perfectly.
But I would say that our adventure has been all the sweeter with those around us at FGS. While we try to be encouraging and create a warmth in our culture for those we serve, our team (and tribe!) has only made our culture that much warmer. When interacting with customers and clients in person and on the phone, I hear warmth and care in their voices. I see smiles on their faces and the joy they experience educating and teaching the plant newbies. We feel the love from customers that are participating in our events/classes and make FGS part of their free time. We see emails come in from landscape clients that are experiencing real enjoyment in their new outdoor spaces the landscape team has built. We serve maintenance clients that now thank our team when they can text us and we respond to their needs. I enjoy listening to their laughter as they eat their lunch and as we all share in a prank. This is our adventure and we are so very grateful.
Pop in for some warmth and love. Maybe even a hug. Maybe a plant? Or two?!

DRACAENA
When it comes to choosing the perfect plant to decorate a corner of your home or to complement your favorite pot, choose the dracaena plant every time. With their far-reaching leaves and beautifully etched trunks, dracaena brings life, texture, color, and depth to any space. Not only does its dramatic foliage with beautiful color patterns make a great focal point in any room, but dracaena can also help improve air quality. It claims a spot on NASA’s list of the world's top air-purifying plants! It is happiest with less frequent watering and can tolerate lower light. But in the end, it's out of this world!

DECIDUOUS MAGNOLIA
One of our most elegant and showy trees is the deciduous Magnolia. Their big, waxy, glossy leaves juxtaposed with heady, fragrant flowers are familiar sights to Southerners. They bloom in a rainbow of colors, and while some species flower in the heat of summer, others bloom in late winter and act as harbingers of warmer weather to come. These are favorite trees for yards not only because of their perfumed blooms, which are always a draw for gardeners, but also because of their variety. Magnolias produce a wide range of foliage and bloom types with a wonderful diversity of appearance. Every gardener has their favorites, and we think there's a Magnolia species for every yard. Do you have one?
