The season of Lent is almost here. This is my favorite liturgical season! In the time of Lent, we are invited to contemplation and connection with the Divine. Lent starts during Black History month, and is an excellent time to reflect on our commitment to social justice. As the weeks of Lent progress, we will see springtime unfolding around us while we are resting in God and seeking renewal of our spirits.
This Lent, we invite you to reflect with art, poetry, and written reflection, following the theme of our worship series, called “Again & Again.” In addition to our Sunday worship services, we will offer programming every weekday evening. You are invited to attend as many of these as you like, do not worry, signing up to attend does not obligate you to be at everything! Here are the descriptions of out Lenten activities:
The first day of Lent is Ash Wednesday, February 17. I hope that you will join us at MCC Tampa for Ash Wednesday for our drive-through imposition of ashes and to pick up soup and communion. We will be doing the imposition of the ashes in the morning (8:00 a.m.- 8:30 a.m.) and in the evening (5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.) Please let us know you are coming, so we have enough soup for all! https://bit.ly/Ashes21. This will be followed by our Ash Wednesday service on YouTube and Facebook, at 7:00 p.m.
You can download a devotional booklet digitally that includes artwork, poetry, and 4 theological reflections a week. You can use this on your own time or choose to reflect in community.
DEVOTIONAL REFLECTION TIME
Our devotional reflection time will be on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday at 7:30 pm on Zoom, starting February 18. You are invited to come to as many or as few of these sessions as you wish. We invite you to bring a journal or take notes on your computer throughout Lent to record your thoughts on the devotional material.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT CONTEMPLATIVE WORSHIP
We will gather every Wednesday in Lent at 7:00 p.m. for a contemplative worship service, these will be held on Zoom, which will give us a more interactive experience. Wednesday Night Contemplative Worship will begin on February 24.
