We have the luck of the Irish--or even better luck--to live & learn & recreate here in all four seasons.
Here's what our students did this winter and what's coming up for them and for you this spring, summer, and fall.

Thanks for Community Support for our Snowshoers
Multiple classes from lower-income neighborhoods got out snowshoeing with us, most as a first-time experience. The Title I school children pictured here thank our local Sierra Club, and other schools thank the Nell J. Redfield Foundation, the Nevada Outdoor Education and Recreation grant, Orchard House Foundation, individual donors, and others. We're also so thankful that Bobo's Ski Shop lends extra snowshoes for our larger groups.
Quotes from Kids
The best thing about the snowshoe trip was:
exploring the forest, playing coyote & rabbit, seeing animal tracks.
The most important thing I learned was: how to snowshoe, we get seasons from Earth's tilt, respect, water cycle.
The most interesting thing I learned about myself is: I love nature, it's good to try new things, that I can do science, that I am smart.
Teachers & Homeschool Parents: Keep our winter ecology and snowshoe overnights and day trips on your radar for your kids for next winter! Plan ahead!

Snowshoeing was a Blast!
Every one of these Title I school fifth graders loved being on snowshoes for their very first time! Most of our snowshoes are over 20 years old, and showing their age, so we're on a mission to begin replacing them. Snowshoes are at the top of our wish list, so please keep us in mind when you or your friends replace yours or if you know of any great affordable snowshoe sources.
Wish List Ideas
- Snowshoes
- Waterproof youth gloves & boots & pants
- Collapsable drying rack for wet snow clothes

STEM to STEAM
(= Adding "Art" to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)
Including the arts enhances our connection and our appreciation of science and the natural world. Whether it's our own nature journaling or the art of others, it helps bring the awe into our hearts and the hearts of our students.
