A Note from Our CEO

Greetings!

Last week’s ICE action had a direct impact at LEAP. One of our mothers arrived at the Children’s Center to drop off her preschooler.

She walked in visibly shaken—panic in her eyes, holding her child tightly. Before we could even ask if they were okay, she said quietly but urgently, “ICE was right outside our house.”

Despite everything, her goal—and ours—was simple: get her three-year-old son, T, safely to class.

T was terrified. He clung to his mom, unwilling to let go of her legs as he walked, while she gently encouraged him toward the classroom door. Our community engagement specialist, Laura, bent down and said, “Look, you see this keypad? No one can come in without the code. I’m going to close the door now. You’re safe here.” We closed the middle door.

That small moment mattered. T visibly relaxed, and his mom was able to walk him back without tears.

Words cannot express how proud I am of our team, our teachers, our family advocates, our community engagement specialist, our receptionist. Every single one of them is committed to ensuring our children and families feel safe – and are safe – when they come to LEAP.

At the end of this month, we will be celebrating our 55th anniversary with an in-person LEAP awards. It’s a big milestone, but our celebration will be simple and community-focused, in keeping with our values. I hope you will join us for brunch on Saturday, February 28, at 10 AM at the Beachfront Hilton. Your support and your attendance will help me, our team, and our families feel safe, because we will know that our community supports us. I hope to see you there.

Warmly,

Lori Lander Goodman

Chief Executive Officer
