Within the next two years, Sterling Heights will open a new trail that will allow residents to bike or hike all the way from the Clinton River to the Lakeside Mall area.

The city of Sterling Heights plans to build a roughly 2.5-mile multi-use trail that will start at the Edison Street trailhead of the Clinton River Trail System, run north and eventually reach the Lakeside Town Center, an upcoming mixed-use development that will replace Lakeside Mall.

The trail will run by residential neighborhoods, so it will will connect many households to the town center.

“Everyone likes access to downtowns and town centers, right?” said Sterling Heights City Manager Mark Vanderpool. “You don't want to just be able to get there by automobile. You want it to be accessible through public transportation, through pedestrian and other non-motorized transportation networks.”

In partnership with the Family Court Awareness Month Committee (FCAMC), City Council has designated the month of November as Family Court Awareness Month in the city of Sterling Heights.

FCAMC's mission is to increase awareness of the importance of a family court system that prioritizes child safety and acts in the best interest of all children.

The committee is also fueled by the desire to create awareness and change in the family court system for the conservatively estimated, 58,000 children a year ordered into unsupervised contact with abusive parents, while honoring the hundreds of children who have been reported as murdered during visitation with a dangerous parent.
