Happy New Year! Buona Befana!

In Italy there is a saying, "L'Epifania tutte le feste le porta via". Meaning, the holidays end with the Epiphany! The Epiphany is a religious holiday celebrated on January 6 when the 3 Wisemen visited Baby Jesus. However, in Italy there is the story of La Befana! She is an old woman who flies on a broomstick on the night of January 5 and brings candy to good children and coal to bad children and puts it in their stockings! Have you ever been visited by La Befana?

More Information

RIP Franco Harris

In our wonderful museum (History of Italian Immigration Museum) , we have a mention to Franco Harris, an amazing American football player, who's accolades are showcased. He was of half Black & half Italian ancestry who played running back in the NFL for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks. He was a key player in one of professional football's most famous plays, dubbed "The Immaculate Reception" by Pittsburgh sportscaster Myron Copehoto.

RIP Dino Danelli

Rest In Peace to another Italian American musical legend! The Rascal's Dino Danelli! He was best known as an original member and the drummer in the rock group. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 with the Rascals.

World's Largest Cannolo

Starting off the New Years right! Here is a photo of the largest cannolo in the entire world, recently made in Caltanissetta, Sicily. It destroyed the previous record in Guinness World Records. The large and spectacular sweet was made by Sicilian pastry chefs, including master pastry chef Lillo Defraia.

L'angolo della Storia

We at Filitalia International & hope that you enjoyed your time with your family & were able to enjoy the holiday season with your family, friends, & significant others like this American soldier eating his granita with his Sicilian cousins at a sidewalk café in Palermo, 1943!

History of Italian Immigration Museum

Make one of your New Year's Resolutions to come and see the new updates to our History of Italian Immigration Museum! Our curator Michael Bonasera has been really working hard on the museum exhibits. Amazing artifacts were installed at the History of Italian Immigration Museum a couple of weeks ago! Much of it dealt with the history of the opera singer, Licia Albanese. She was an Italian-born American operatic soprano. Noted especially for her portrayals of the lyric heroines of Verdi and Puccini, Albanese was a leading artist with the Metropolitan Opera from 1940 to 1966. She also made many recordings and was chairwoman of The Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation, which is dedicated to assisting young artists and singers. Before that she was performing at La Scala in Milan.

Come check out our new Licia Albanese collection at the History of Italian Immigration Museum!
