Halloween Around the FV Campus

From costume contests, to Halloween Bingo, a poker walk, happy hour, special treats and games, there was so much Halloween fun at Felician Village

Mission Message

As we approach the holidays, we think often about the meals we will have at family gatherings, serving at the community meal program, and potlucks with friends.

Emily Keeling, RN

Her nomination: “Emily coordinated birthday balloons, flowers, and a card for a resident with a very special birthday. She went over and above to celebrate with this resident. Her commitment to our residents goes far beyond this one event and she should be recognized for living our values every day.”

San Damiano Cross

A dedication of new San Damiano Cross was recently held in the Blessed Angela Chapel. This cross was blessed by Franciscan Friar Andre Cirino in Assisi when Luke Schubert, CEO of Felician Village, and Barb Spies, Director of Mission at Felician Village were on their pilgrimage in Assisi.

This cross is an icon, telling the story of Christ's death and resurrection. It shows a triumphant Christ, rather than a suffering one. We pray this cross can be a saving help to all who view it, a support of faith, an encouragement to good works, a redemption of souls and a consolation for all through Christ our Lord.

Felician Sisters Celebrate 150 Years

The Felician Sisters were the first Polish sisters to cross the ocean as missionaries to the United States. They responded to the heartfelt pleas of Fr. Joseph Dabrowski in Polonia, Wisconsin,

who expressed his distress over the difficulties of the Polish immigrants: “Here they are, coming overseas, to a country that is foreign to them both in language and customs.” The sisters in Poland sent five women to serve the immigrant community

in Wisconsin.

These sisters left Cracow on October 24, 1874, and arrived in Wisconsin on the night of November 20, 1874. On November 21, the feast of the Presentation of Our Lady, they entered their new home in Polonia. Mother Mary Monica Sybilska wrote, “Nineteen years after our first consecration in 1855, we find ourselves in another hemisphere. Again we consecrated ourselves to the Lord Jesus and to His Mother. May she take care of this tender young shoot and give it strength and growth!” And they grew right away! Maria Winowska wrote in her biography of Blessed Angela Truskowska, the Foundress of the Felician Sisters, “as joy is contagious, the example of the sisters began to attract vocations.” Soon they went from one province to six, spread throughout the northern US, then even to Canada and Brazil. Winowska explained this joyful work of the sisters: “The Felicians threw themselves eagerly into every enterprise that gave them an opportunity to carry on the apostolate most dear to them: helping and instructing the poorest and the lowliest.” This predilection for the humblest services among the most deprived classes of society is inherent in the Franciscan spirit of their formation as religious.”

Blessed Angela: “All beginnings are difficult, especially in America. I bless you with all my heart and immerse you in the hearts of Jesus and Mary.”

Veterans Breakfast

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, Sunrise Rotary President, Elsie Patterson, and club members hosted the 13th annual Veterans Breakfast at Felician Village. We were so pleased that more than 60 veterans and guests attended the event.

A special thank you to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 731 who honored the guests with the moving Color Guard presentation, led by Tom Hoffman.  Our very own, Fr. Gerald Foley (Retired Army Chaplain) delivered the invocation. Retired CSM, Ed Hansen who facilitates event speakers every year, introduced Todd Brehmer, Mtwc Cty Veterans Services representative.  This office provides services to our many veterans needing advice and information on their benefits. Finally, a big thank you to Lindsey Corbeil and her FV Culinary Team prepared a delicious meal for the group.

Team Felician Village

A group of residents & staff recently traveled to the gym at Citizen Park to cheer on the Felician Village Basketball Rec Team. While it didn’t end the way we wanted, it was a hard-fought battle and a perfect example of the community built at Felician Village!

Lunch Bunch at Brick's

FV at Home Members visited Bricks in October for their monthly lunch bunch outing. Every month members visit a local restaurant which gives everyone the opportunity to visit with old and new friends, enjoy a tasty meal and enjoy some laughs!

Holiday Craft and Vendor Fair

The Second Annual Holiday Craft and Vendor Fair was a success.

With 32 vendors, holiday food and beverages, live Christmas music, face painting, an appearance from Santa and over 500 guests in attendance, all of this made for a great day!

Patio and Pub Update

Vinton Construction recently finished the first phase of our project,

the patio area at The Gardens.

Deo Gratias Bags

Residents from The Court along with the Felician Sisters and Felician Associates packaged Deo Gratias Bags for the Manitowoc Warming Shelter. These bags contain socks, chapstick, hand warmers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, bandaids, lotion, and mints. “Deo Gratias” is a saying of St. Felix of Cantalice, for whom the Felician Sisters are named. It means, “Thanks be to God!”

Fall Clean Up for FV at Home Mem

Volunteers from St. Francis of Assisi braved the chilly, rainy weather and assisted a few of our Felician Village at Home members with getting their yards raked. This is just one of the many benefits of being a member of the Felician Village at Home Program.
