The Sportsman's Voice #53
Parker County Sportsman Club
President's Welcome
Greetings!

We need volunteers!! We are looking for a few (4) people to work approximately every other first Saturday to add to our existing Orientation Team. Please contact :

Ruben Sandoval

Ryan Donnell

Also, I would like to create a first aid maintenance team. This team would be responsible for all first aid items on the club’s property, checking expiration dates on supplies, AED batteries up to standards and organizing CPR and or first aid classes for the club once a year. If you are interested in this, please contact me,

Keith Eberly

Just a reminder we have the club pistol match coming up the second Saturday in May. I know Jon has something good planned.

Also, many of you may have received the notice from CMP regarding care in choosing ammo for the M1 Garand rifle. I hope this link will work for you if you like to read and be made aware their recommendations.

"Dear CMP Family,
The CMP advises to not use .30/06 ammunition in M1 Garands, 1903s, and 1903A3s that is loaded beyond 50,000 CUP and has a bullet weight more than 172-174gr. These rifles are at least 70 years old and were not designed for max loads and super heavy bullets. Always wear hearing and eye protection when firing an M1 Garand, 1903 and/or 1903A3 rifle.
This warning is an update/addition to the Ammunition section in the Read This First manual enclosed with each rifle shipment (M1 Garand manual-page 6 and M1903 manual-page 10).

Until next month,

Meeting Notes
April Board Meeting highlights . . .

We had 13 new members join PCSC at Orientation this month, bringing current membership to 1,054. Prospective new members are continuing to use the online application process. All good.

The newly organized social media group Parker County Sportsman Swap got Board approval for use as a sort of online Swap Meet for members. Chuck has this app up and running, and I tried it out. What a great idea! Any member can join and chat with other members to buy, sell, or trade just about any firearms-related stuff. Like me, you probably have some ammo in a specific caliber, but you no longer own the gun that went with it (or maybe never did), and what could be better than trading with another member who NEEDS that specific caliber? Info on how to join the group will be detailed in the newsletter.

Ruben Sandoval reported the installation of the new Trap machine on Field 2 is complete. That means all our throwers are up to date and ready for service, so pack your shotgun next time you head to the Club and give them a workout.

A Safety Committee recommendation to clarify our rules for moving the firing line forward of the bench on Ranges A and F safely was approved by the Board.

To wit, “When transporting firearms forward of the bench, handguns must be secured in a holster that fully encloses the trigger guard or unloaded, magazine removed, chamber empty with ECI inserted; and long guns must be unloaded with magazine removed and chamber open with ECI inserted.” ...referenced in Range A rules...

Look for the revised rules in the Documents tab on the Club website. Be sure to add the next Swap Meet on June 12 to your calendar, and . . . stay safe!

Thanks,

Daniel Barnes, Club Secretary
