Let's Get Together (Socially Distanced, Of Course)
|
It's amazing that I'm approaching the end of the 6th week of serving you as your pastor here at Fellowship Presbyterian Church. As my friends and family keep learning of my new call, I hear a common thread come up: "you were kind of handed a difficult situation", meaning: how does one start serving a church in the midst of a pandemic that requires us to be apart from one another? They're right: it's difficult, but not impossible!
I've been able to meet many members of this wonderful Fellowship Family through committee and session meetings, some of you stopping by because of business you may have with Martha, or because you've stopped by one of the two food drives after worship. But there are still some of you whom I haven't had the pleasure of meeting - but that ends now!
If you haven't already done so, you will be receiving a bag of microwave popcorn with a tag that looks like the one above. On the back of the tag is a website link taking you to a website to sign up for a 30-minute visit with me, either virtually or in-person. Unfortunately, many are calling the office to say they are having problems with the link; I love technology...when it works! The link is
here
and included in the image above - if one of the times listed doesn't fit with your schedule, please
email me
or call Martha in the main office and we will find one that does!
These last 6 weeks have been such a blessing to me and my family - I'm thankful for the warmth and welcome I have received. I look forward to meeting many more of you in the upcoming weeks.
See you in (virtual) church!

Navigating Racial Equity: Fellowship's 21-Day Journey
- Starting July 15th
Fellowship is providing a unique opportunity for learning to its Fellowship Family starting July 15th.
Navigating Racial Equity: Fellowship's 21-Day Journey
asks those who are interested and sign up to participate in 21 days of listening and acting, seeking to better understand systematic racism and injustice and how we can act to bring equity and healing to our nation.
Those who participate are invited, starting July 15th, to watch, listen to, read or do each day something that helps bring insight into the racial divide in our country. Participants will be provided with resources from which to choose. While interacting with the daily resource, participants will be asked to reflect and journal those reflections in some way. Participants will be invited to share during weekly small group meetings (via Zoom) throughout the journey.
Those who are interested or who have questions should
contact Pastor Kathryn
- there will be an organizational meeting scheduled on
Monday, July 13, at 6 pm for approximately 30 minutes
. If you're unable to join the meeting but interested in joining the challenge, please let Pastor Kathryn know.

Worship and Building Use Update: June 25, 2020
Part 1: Worship
With the Fellowship Family's health in mind, in conjunction with the CDC, World Health Organization, and Gov. Roy Cooper's office, the Session decided that virtual worship will continue through the current streaming platforms through at least the month of July - Session will reevaluate at its July meeting and make its decision on a month-to-month basis. Not only will worship continue to be available through Facebook Live, but will also be streaming through Zoom, should members of the Fellowship Family want to see each other. Please look for log-in information about Zoom below.
Part 2: Building Usage
As of July 6
th
, the church has begun opening up for approved meetings with
groups of ten or less
, with the following requirements:
- Everyone who comes into the building MUST wear a mask
- Each meeting must be approved by the church office.
- The meeting room and restrooms are the only areas that are available. It is recommended that one person utilize the restroom at a time
- Each meeting must have a host, who is responsible for:
- Preparing the room
- Asking all attendees the following health questions, which must each be answered in the negative:
- Have you been around anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19?
- Do you have a fever or felt feverish in the past 14-21 days?
- Do you have shortness of breath or other difficulty breathing?
- Do you have a cough?
- Are you suffering from other flu-like symptoms such as gastrointestinal upset, headache or fatigue?
- Have you experienced a recent loss of taste or smell?
- Have you traveled to any regions affected by COVID-19 in the past 14 days?
- Taking attendees’ temperature (touchless thermometer is available at the front desk with the check-in notebook)
- All attendees will complete a sign-in sheet which will be kept in a notebook on the welcome desk outside the Day School Office
- Explaining the requirements of attendance
- Cleaning the room after the meeting (cleaning supplies available in the meeting rooms)
Hosts will need to inform attendees that they may bring their own bottled drinks, but they must take the container home with them. No food or drink may be provided.
The staff of FPC continue to work hard in the office. Should you need to come to the office to speak with any of them, please plan to abide by the same guidelines as for groups, including wearing a mask and signing in at the desk outside of the Day School's office door.
Should you have any questions regarding the session's decision, please contact Julie Davis, Clerk of Session, or Pastor Kathryn.
