I had planned for my note this week to be about gratitude. And it still is. And while I'm grateful for so many things in my life, I now have two things for which I am grateful this week:
The first - and my initial thought for this week's note - was about the generosity of the congregation for the mid-year staff bonus and gift that we received with this month's paycheck. I will speak for Martha, Blake, and Cynthia in saying "thank you". But I will also add that, for me personally, as our family prepares for the trip of a lifetime to Alaska next month, it helps make our trip that much greater. So, thank you.

While my gratitude for the staff and members of Fellowship Presbyterian Church is always immense, my second note of gratitude is the response from the staff and session as the picture on the right was coming into view on Wednesday night. After over two and a half years of keeping COVID at bay, it hit me, and I tested positive. A couple of family members have had it, but I had been fortunate to steer clear until now. I am fully vaccinated and have one booster, which is one of the reasons why, I think, my symptoms are very mild. While I'm also grateful for that, it's the response I want to highlight:

I first called Julie Davis, our Clerk of Session, to let her know. She assured me I shouldn't worry about Sunday and it would get figured out. She let the Session know, who have showered me and the family with prayers that have been felt since the email went out.
I then talked to Blake, who also assured me that all would be fine with worship on Sunday. Without hesitation, he told me that he would preach and make sure everything was taken care of so that I could focus on healing. Charles Layno, chair of the Worship and Music Committee, and Martha echoed their concerns for me and assurances that worship would be fine without me.
So, Blake will be leading worship - with the rest of the Team - as HE wraps up the "Talk to the Hand" sermon series. How does the THUMB connect to the gospel lesson for this week? I, like many of you, will be tuning in to worship with you all online. I hope many of you will be in-person to hear how as well.
So, my gratitude continues - for this congregation, and the relentless care it shows for all of its members, including its pastor and her family.
God's peace to you,
Pastor Kathryn

Wondering what to do with all of those grocery shopping bags? The Missions committee will be collecting “gently used” plastic grocery bags for Backpack Beginnings. Please bring any you don’t use to church with you, leaving them on the Missions table in the Dogwood Lobby closest to the double doors leading towards the classrooms.
