How are you doing? It's been quite a week. As I write this, a winner still hasn't been declared in our presidential election. I don't know about you, but the anxiety I feel has a lot to do with the uncertainty and unfinished-ness of the whole thing. I work much better from places of definiteness - I can respond to something once I know from where I'm working! I feel like I catch myself not fully releasing my breath - and once I notice, I wonder how long I've been holding that tension. This prayer from my friend and colleague Rev. Jo Owens, is one I have been praying often this week, so I pass it on to you:
As we close the week and look toward Sunday, I'm thrilled by all that's going on! During worship, we will be starting our 2021 Stewardship Sermon Series by ZOOMing into the Future! Did you know that FPC is celebrating its 55th anniversary this year? What a better way to think about our future by looking back and reflecting on its past. We will be doing that this week by hearing a conversation that I was privileged to have with FPC's most recently installed pastor, Rev. John Hartman.

Immediately following the worship service, we will be holding a brief congregational meeting to elect the next slate of ruling elders who are being called by God to serve our congregation. Please see who is included in that slate below.

If you're one for singing or enjoying great music, I encourage you to join me at Oden Brewing Company for the next installment of Beer and Hymns, starting at 3 pm. More information about that is also below.

Despite our doors being physically closed, the missions and ministries of Fellowship Presbyterian Church continue with the help of the Holy Spirit. If you haven't already, you will be receiving a letter from the Stewardship and Finance Committee about this Stewardship season. As we navigate it, it is my prayer that you will also pray about your contributions of time, talent, and treasure as we ZOOM into this next year.

Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday!

Blessings,
Pastor Kathryn

– Julie Davis, Clerk of Session
Elder Slate: 1 for Class of 2021; 4 for Class of 2023
Class of 2021 - Yanique McLeod
Yanique has been a member of Fellowship Presbyterian Church since 2012. She is a licensed agent with one of the world’s largest provider of life insurance, pensions and asset management. She is also a Mary Kay Independent beauty consultant. She enjoys cooking, baking, entertaining and helping others. Yanique enjoys serving the church and has had the distinction of doing so in a few capacities including assisting with planning events, working with congregational care committee and helping with mission activities.

It is important to her to be an instrument for God, asking to be used as God sees fit. She believes there is something this church is to initiate, fulfill or revolutionize and sense it might be time to join others to carry out the will and work of God. Yanique would like to thank those who saw it fit to ask her to serve as an active member of session.
Class of 2023
Gary Anderson
Gary has been a member of Fellowship since March if 2009. He is employed at Ameritek inc. here in Greensboro. His hobbies include a variety of things from record and coin-collecting to wood working.

Gary has served and been involved with various committees at FPC from
Building and grounds to Fellowship Programs.

He and his wife, Terry, have been singing in the choir since before day one(lol) and they both have been singing in Tapestry since its beginnings.
Since Gary and Terry have joined the Church, they have been active in as much as they both are able to do. As far as Gary, he feels "that there is so much more that I can give of myself to help with the growth of the Church, call it a calling or a duty, but to me it is a joy and a pleasure to serve in anyway I can."
Greg French
Greg French and his wife Gail have been members of Fellowship for nearly thirty years. Retired from local government, he enjoys metal detecting as a hobby and positively loves being a grandpa. He has previously served on Fellowship's Session as an elder and clerk. He currently serves on the Stewardship and Finance Committee. Greg is honored to be called to serve on Fellowship's Session and knows that God may not always call the equipped, but is confident that he always equips the called.
Dr. Susan Stemples Harman
Susan was member of FPC back in the 1980s. She was very active as a Sunday school teacher and co-directed Vacation Bible School with Judy Meyler for two summers. Circumstances pulled her away from FPC, but in 2006, she and husband Patrick happily rejoined and have enjoyed being a part of this wonderful church family ever since.

Susan retired from her job as an educational researcher at UNCG in 2005. Since then, she has been taking weekly watercolor and pottery classes. Community activities include membership on three Board of Directors, a tutor for Reading Connections, weekly volunteering at Presbyterian Counseling Center, and being a Guardian ad Litem for the Guilford County Court system. She also likes to offer her filing skills to the FPC Office Manager when time permits.

Other than helping at the FPC office, Susan enjoys working on the Building and Grounds Committee, Programs Committee, and is currently chairing the Personnel and Administration Committee. She also served on the Nominating Committee and PNC. In the past, she spent several years on the Missions Committee and enjoyed working with her Fellowship family in that capacity. When she came to FPC so many years ago, she remembers stepping through the doors, for the first time, and feeling like she was in her childhood church. That feeling has never left and she feels God wants her there for as long as she is able.
Lee Wineholt
Lee Wineholt has been a member of FPC for almost 5 years. He works as a high school guidance counselor in Forsyth County. When not working, he loves movies, music, live theatre, and Stephen King novels. At FPC, he enjoys singing in the choir, ringing bells, and participating in the summer music productions. After much consideration, he decided it was the right time to participate in the leadership of FPC.
Beer and Hymns: the next installment of Beer and Hymns is THIS Sunday afternoon at Oden Brewing Company from 3-4:30 pm. Entirely outdoors at their location (804 W. Gate City Blvd), participants are asked to bring their own seating and wear facemasks. The event will also be streamed through Facebook Live. For more information, please visit the Facebook page: www.facebook.com/greensborobeerandhymns/

Roof work begins on Monday. Crews will work to re-shingle the sanctuary and make other roof improvements beginning November 9th. A majority of the cost is covered by insurance. The church will spend approximately $11,000.00 to cover costs remaining. Building funds are on hand to cover our cost, but your gift to replenish the fund would be greatly welcomed.

Thanks to all who came to the Food Drive last Sunday - we donated
677 pounds of food to Greensboro Urban Ministries!
See you on December 6th!
This year as in the past, Fellowship will be providing a Thanksgiving feast for 10 refugee families in Greensboro. In order to welcome these new residents of Greensboro we will deliver food items that are both traditional American Thanksgiving foods as well as foods they are most familiar with.

The items listed below may be donated before Friday, November 20:
Jasmine rice
Potatoes
Onions
Vegetable Oil
Garlic
Because much of what is needed requires purchase just prior to delivery, you may also provide monetary donations so the Mission Committee can make those purchases like turkeys, fresh fruit, and other vegetables. Please label your contributions "Thanksgiving Feast." Thank you!

Worship and Building Use Update – October 27, 2020

Part 1: Worship
With the Fellowship Family's health in mind, in conjunction with the CDC, World Health Organization, and Gov. Roy Cooper's office, the Session decided that virtual worship will continue through the current streaming platforms through at least the month of December - Session will reevaluate at its December meeting and make its decision on a month-to-month basis. Not only will worship continue to be available through Facebook Live, but will also be streaming through Zoom, should members of the Fellowship Family want to see each other.

Part 2: Building Usage
As of September 28th, the church will allow approved meetings with groups of 25 or less, with the following requirements:
  • Everyone who comes into the building MUST wear a mask
  • Each meeting must be approved by the church office.
  • The meeting room and restrooms are the only areas that are available. It is recommended that one person utilize the restroom at a time
  • Each meeting must have a host, who is responsible for:
  • Preparing the room
  • Asking all attendees the following health questions, which must each be answered in the negative:
  • Have you been around anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19?
  • Do you have a fever or felt feverish in the past 14-21 days?
  • Do you have shortness of breath or other difficulty breathing?
  • Do you have a cough?
  • Are you suffering from other flu-like symptoms such as gastrointestinal upset, headache or fatigue?
  • Have you experienced a recent loss of taste or smell?
  • Have you traveled to any regions affected by COVID-19 in the past 14 days?
  • Taking attendees’ temperature (touchless thermometer is available at the front door with the check-in sheet)
  • All attendees will complete a sign-in sheet which will be kept in a notebook on the welcome kiosk outside the Day School Office.
  • Explaining the requirements of attendance.
  • Cleaning the room after the meeting (cleaning supplies available in the meeting rooms)
  • Hosts will need to inform attendees that they may bring their own bottled drinks, but they must take the container home with them. No food or drink may be provided.
  • The staff of FPC continue to work hard in the office. Should you need to come to the office to speak with any of them, please plan to abide by the same guidelines as for groups, including wearing a mask and signing in at the kiosk outside of the Day School's office door.
