What a full weekend we have ahead!
Movie night tomorrow on the lawn and a Sunday filled with worship with communion, our monthly food drive, and then the Greater Greensboro CROP Walk in the afternoon! AWESOME!

As I'm writing this, I have just wrapped up a week full of Zoom meeting with the Executive and Coordinating Councils of the Association of Presbyterian Church Educators (APCE) - an organization of which I have been a part for over a decade and who have entrusted me to lead them as their President in the upcoming years. Our time together included difficult discussion about many different facets of the organization and the ways that it does things but, overall, had a feeling of warmth and gratitude. As we concluded with reflection during worship, one of the Council members wrote in the group chat that she did not feel welcomed and had been struggling all week to feel a part of the Council and larger organization.
My heart sank. Upon further conversation with others who have been on the Council longer than I, I found the reasons why she may be feeling that way - coming into leadership mid-year, only meeting on Zoom, and other notes were made about why she may be feeling this way. But it had me thinking - I'm newer to the Council than this person, so her feelings are not my burden to carry...or are they?

As we conclude our "Welcome All" worship series this Sunday, we will examine hard questions about what welcome can mean to people, both in positive and less-than-positive ways.
How might we all be responsible - each in our own way - to creating a truly welcoming environment for everyone we encounter? Is it as easy - or as difficult - as it sounds? I look forward to reflecting with you in worship and in the Education Hour immediately following worship this Sunday. During worship, we will also celebrate World Communion Sunday and welcome back former organist John Fair for music leadership. A full Sunday if you throw in the Food Drive and CROP Walk as well!

I hope to see you Saturday night for our movie - I encourage you to invite a friend!

Blessings,
Pastor Kathryn
